Vision and mission statements
Vision
The Institute of Technology (IT) will advance its position as:
- a preeminent research-oriented college of engineering, physical
sciences, mathematics, and computer science, and a national resource
for doctoral level graduates in these fields
- a preeminent source for baccalaureate graduates who are prepared
to contribute to industry and who are prepared for graduate or
professional study
- a leader in postgraduate education for practicing professional
engineers, who will be served by programs that meet their ongoing,
multidisciplinary needs for technical and scientific knowledge
Mission
IT's mission is to provide programs of instruction, research, and
service/outreach that are appropriate to a research university and
that are responsive to the needs of the state, the nation, and the
world.
In mission of IT's instructional programs is:
- to provide a rigorous and stimulating education for undergraduate
and graduate students in computer science, engineering, physical
sciences, and mathematics
- to provide programs of instruction in engineering that meet
nationally accepted standards for professional practice
- to establish a challenging basic education in computer science,
mathematics, and physical sciences for University students majoring
in other disciplines
The mission of IT's basic and applied research programs is:
- to sustain its educational programs, enrich modern culture,
and improve professional practice
- to create knowledge and expertise that are essential to our
increasingly technological society and to maintain our desired
quality of life
The mission of IT's service and outreach programs is:
- to make appropriate contributions in the application of new
knowledge to society's problems
- to provide expertise to the state's industries
- to enhance K-12 education in science, mathematics, and technology
- to develop, where appropriate, collaborative programs with
other educational institutions within the state
